The People's Manifesto

In the aftermath of our fighters’ and heroes’ victory against a tyrant and dictator that has held back our beautiful country for too long, where do we go next? This is the hope of us, the Libyan people.

We will endeavour to create a fair and free society, where the rights and freedoms of the people take precedence over the rights and freedom of the individual. We wish to be part of a tolerant nation where people of all religious persuasions feel safe and free to live in Libya and practice their religion. Where the colour of your skin is not a barrier to your safety and progress in life. And the station of your family has no bearing in your pursuit for betterment. We will be free from corruption and from the accusations of corruption.

Our values are in line with the Quran and the Sunnah of The Messenger of Allah according to the understanding of the salaf and scholars of our religion, and where we contradict either we will correct ourselves and ask Allah for forgiveness. The people of Libya are fully Muslim. And we will safeguard the rights of others as according to Allah and His Messenger. Based on this we reject all that is in contradiction with our religion and we will not be swayed. It is also our understanding that the aqeedah of the people differs and we do not hold one aqeedah but we encourage the people of knowledge and understanding to teach the people. We will encourage investment in dawah to ensure the image of muslim people is strong across the world so that they are safe wherever they may chose to live.

We believe in the rule of law and that it is our solemn belief that Allah has proclaimed that all are innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt by a court of law. And that all is Halal unless proven Haram. We will see that for justice to prevail a strong national and local police force must be instituted and whose powers are there to protect the rights of society and not to impinge upon the rights of the individual. We will see to it that every town and village and city has a visual police presence, who understand the laws of the land. It is our aim that our police force will be the envy of the world over and that it will be known for being institutionally incorruptible. It is our pursuit that our streets are safe from crime and that punishments are fair and just. We believe in deterrents above rehabilitation, as it is our undoubted belief that we don’t want to create victims.

We will promote better education, where our students will be expected to learn, then understand and then apply. We will endeavour to improve the diversity and quality of higher education, so that our people can study for their Masters or Doctorate within their own country and not have to pursue assignments abroad. At universities we will aim for our children to be able to pick a variety of subjects other than Engineering and Medicine, in the knowledge that their future careers are safeguarded. We want to encourage and target more mature students to re-enter university as their understanding of what they want improves. We will strive to increase options outside of university, so that our young have a choice and can pursue vocational targets. We wish to see a nation where religious schools are abundant and state funded.

We will aim for a largely free-market economy, where the principles of supply and demand rule. It is, however, our belief that those areas that are essential to the people remain within the hands of the people. These include oil, gas, electricity, water and telephone. We are also committed to the subsidy of essential sustenance, such as bread, water and rice. We will aim for a diversified economy, that is no longer reliant on the oil that Allah has blessed us with. We want the blessed oil to be used for growth and not for show. We will pursue a high-quality manufacture led economy where we will look to our people to produce the quality goods as is appropriate for our population. We are committed to give our people optimism in their pursuit of career satisfaction and to provide the opportunity for all to thrive.

We will aim to create a free and high quality healthcare system as becoming of the continent’s most developed country. No longer will our elderly and infirm be forced to travel the world for the essential rights of healthcare. No longer will our ill be forced to travel to our neighbours in embarrassment that they can provide for them what we cannot. It is our belief that the quality of our doctors is not matched by the quality of the infrastructure and equipment and processes to allow the world to recognise that we have some of the best doctors in the world. It is also our belief that the people should be given the option for private healthcare and that both free and private can live together harmoniously.

Our heroes died and put their lives on the line so that their nation can be free and create a society that elects it’s leaders and we are committed to their goal. We strive to ensure that the wishes of the people are upheld and that free and fair elections are maintained. We will pursue a campaign that is positive and wish the best people lead our country, whoever it may be. We will refuse to enter into the democratic party politics as we will work with all our brethren to create a Libya to be proud of. We will cooperate with all members of our society that wish to improve the situation of the Libyan people, as long as their aims and goals are in line with Allah and His Messenger. We reject secularism, as Islam and government are intertwined irrevocably forever.

We will pursue good relations with all nations of the world. We look forward to a time when nations can work together and trade together, while tolerating and accepting our different approaches. We will seek especially close relations with our Muslim and Arab brethren and with our direct neighbours, as we share a religion, a language and geography. However, we will work with all nations and will form commercial alliances as is appropriate and will not preclude anyone. We are also committed to aid our brethren in Palestine and it is our belief that the occupation of the Palestinian lands by the state of Israel is morally corrupt and illegal according to international law. Until our Palestinian brethren gain their own fully independent and sovereign state we will not recognise the legitimacy of the state of Israel.

A nation with strong and successful sporting teams and individuals is proud and happy. It unites the people behind a common goal and we will encourage success in the different sports available. A healthy nation is also a target that we wish to come true, where our children can take part in social and competitive sport, to drive away their boredom, improve their health and improve the nation’s happiness. We will improve the level of coaching and bring in expertise to encourage sporting prowess.

It is our hope that Libya will have a free media that can express opinions and facts without fear of prosecution. We wish to see to our television, radio and written media be allowed free speech, though without slander nor backbiting.

The history of the Muslim people is steeped in the successes in science and mathematics, producing results of greatness. We wish for our scientists to be able to pursue their scientific research within Libya, where we can become a leader in scientific discoveries and technological advances. It is our hope that one day we will be celebrating a Libyan Nobel Prize winner and will invest to achieve that dream.

This is our manifesto. This is our dream. We are one people and we will strive for it.
